Street Anthem Poetry

Origin- A Poem by Olakunle Adegoroye

Orisa oke ko pe in the land of the dead and the living
Was the prayer we were trained to offer as we grow
We were told not to question the prayer, give us our daily bread whenever we got nothing to eat
Because the gift of life worth more than the daily bread.

We lived harmoniously in our community to fellowship with thanksgiving
Orisa nla was pleased by our lone wish, let thy will be done
Even at the point of death with no hope
We reckon with the messengers of Orisa that everything he has in store is good and we never ask question to clear our doubt.

As the inevitable constant factor emanates, our differences set in place
And caused division in all we do, opening doors for vested interest
That takes our pride off the side of safety and we forgone our prayer, forgive us our trespasses because we enjoy inflicting pain on our brothers.

The changes start, we fell for the temptation and dissent our prayer lead us not into temptation
For our aspirations supersedes our belief of the creation
We lost what we loved the most, then we realised the cause of our problem
It all begins from our mind and imagination yet we turn deaf to the origin of truth.
